2020 Artakama Viognier/Roussanne
The fruit came in from the La Feuille D'Or Vineyard (Golden Mile Sub GI) on Sept.7 and was very clean. 70% Viognier 30 % Roussanne. Destemmed and hand-sorted in a stainless steel tank on skins. Fermentation started spontaneously on Sept.13. Mild punch down once daily until the desired extraction and flavours were achieved. Pressed off skins Sept.20 to a Stainless steel tank. This was done to reduce bitter unwanted tannins and to maintain the purity of the fruit. The wine went through Malo and RS is around 0.9 g/l with a PH of approximately 3.48. Racked into a 225 L neutral French oak barrel for a short time with regular battonage to allow integration and to add some complexity. Some wine was also left in stainless steel and added to the final blend which added freshness to the palate. Racked twice before bottling on March 5 2021.
