2020 Artakama Syrah

Winemaking Notes
The fruit came in from our La Feuille D'Or Vineyard (Golden Mile Sub GI) on October 5th 2020. 1.9 percent Roussanne in the blend to add some elegance and aromatics. The fruit looked and tasted great. Destemmed and hand sorted into a stainless steel tank. Fermentation started spontaneously on October 8th 2020. Mild Punch downs once daily until the proper extraction was achieved and after that just a daily wetting of the cap. Pressed on October 26th to a stainless steel tank. Free run and press are kept separate. Racked into a 2016 French oak barrel to add some depth and to integrate the wine. About 25 % natural Le Grand Pin Vineyard (Black Sage Road) Syrah added to the final blend to help balance the acid and overall structure of the wine. Racked twice before bottling on March 5th 2021.
